After using blogger for while, there's a common problem faced by every creator that the default blogger themes aren't so attractive or user friendly. As a result however good your content maybe or even if your site gets traffic, the bounce rate of the visitors will be high. It leads to poor performance of your site and it may not be able to generate any revenue. Without a good looking theme, your site wouldn't get approved for Adsense either which is really an irony as to how Google doesn't support its own product. It is very important to select a good looking theme for your site to create good impression on your visitors. It helps to retain the visitors and they are more likely to spend time on your site and view other posts.
Themes which are attractive, user friendly, responsive, customizable and SEO optimized are the first priority of every website owner. Though blogger adds some new themes occasionally but still there are not any themes that meets the expectations of users. We really wonder why Google being such a huge company that invests billions of dollars in research and development of its products and services hasn't been able to come up with some genuine theme for its one of the most popular platform. They could easily engage their developer team for a short period for creating some good looking themes for blogger. while such themes are readily being developed and marketed by third parties and even individuals.
Let's hope that Google will work to resolve this issue soon but till then we have to search for some alternatives and in this post I am going to share with you how can we change default blogger themes and change the look of our blog or website hosted in blogger.
Luckily, there is an option that we can upload our own theme besides default blogger themes and convert our blog into a professional good looking website. You can find a lot of themes for Blogger online. While you may need to pay for some premium themes but luckily there are a lot of themes which you can get online for free that are very attractive and easy to customize. Most of them are responsive and SEO friendly as well and they can really be helpful for your blogs and websites. You can get various themes as per you requirement like Personal blog, News blog, Travel blog, Photos blog, Food blog and even themes for business websites.
The process of uploading and installing new theme is really simple. You just need to download the free theme of your choice on your computer and upload it on blogger. When you download a theme, usually a zip file will be downloaded with some documents and an .xml file. The file having .xml at the end is your theme file.
Once you have downloaded the theme file, you need to go to Blogger > Themes and then click on the down arrow next to 'Customize' button. There you will see an option 'Restore' . Click on it and it will ask you to browse and upload the theme file from your computer. Go to the location where the .xml file of your downloaded theme is located and upload it.
That's it. Now you have the new theme installed and active on your website. You can check how your site looks like and usually need to make few customizations and changes in layout to customize the theme as per your requirement.
It is a good practice to take a backup copy of working theme before you upload and activate a new theme because there may be issues in the new theme. If there's an issue, you could always revert to the previous theme by restoring the backup.
